Paolo Grossi is Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Insubria in Varese, Italy. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Milano (Italy), attended the residency program on Infectious Diseases at the University of Pavia (Italy), and received his post-doctoral degree on Preventive and Community Medicine. Since the beginning of his career he performed his clinical and research activity at the Infectious Diseases Department of the University of Pavia. In 1993 he moved, as visiting professor, to the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he remained to the end of 1994. Since the year 2000 he has been professor of Infectious Diseases and director of the residency programs in Infectious Diseases and in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the University of Insubria, Varese, Italy. From February 2001 he has been the Director of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Unit of the Ospedale di Circolo and Fondazione Macchi of Varese, Italy, where, since April 2009 he has been the Director of the Department of Transplantation.
