Dr. Michael Petty is the Cardiothoracic Clinical Nurse Specialist at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN. He received his initial nursing degree from St. Mary’s Junior College, Minneapolis, MN, and subsequently obtained a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the University of the State of New York, and a Masters Degree and PhD in Nursing from the University of Minnesota. He began his career as a staff nurse in the Surgical ICU at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinic, and has held a variety of clinical, administrative, and industry roles in the subsequent years. Much of his focus and interest during that time has been in the care of patients with cardiovascular disorders requiring medical, surgical, and transplant interventions. He has been an active participant in the Mechanical Circulatory Support community since 1995 including serving as president of the International Consortium of Circulatory Assist Clinicians (ICCAC) in 2013. His clinical research interests focus on thoracic transplant and family caregivers of MCS patients.
